Cindy Anderson,
Board Chair

Cindy Anderson is a communications leader with more than 15 years of experience directing strategy in aerospace, defense technology, and government. Her background spans across executive communications, media relations, employee engagement, digital media, and crisis and reputation management.


She joined NASA in 2024 as a Lead Public Affairs Officer and spokesperson. Prior to NASA, Anderson was head of Integrated Public Relations for Northrop Grumman where she most recently led the newsroom and media engagement for functional leaders. Prior to joining Northrop Grumman in 2020, she held various communications roles of increasing responsibility at The Boeing Company including leading state and local government communicators and promoting community engagement across the company’s U.S. economic footprint.


In addition to her career, Anderson is also active in the community. She first became involved with Educate Fairfax in 2016 when she led a team of volunteers to develop a comprehensive integrated communications plan. 


Anderson’s research and plan included many recommendations that were later adopted including successfully renaming and rebranding the foundation’s identity to Educate Fairfax to better align with the mission. She was asked to join the board of directors to continue her commitment expanding the organization’s reach and went on to join the executive committee in 2020 and board chair in 2022. Anderson continues to support the mission to help ensure that every student in FCPS has a path to success. 


Anderson holds a Master of Journalism degree from the University of Nevada, Reno and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from the Pennsylvania State University.
